A wonderful week exploring this part of France but plenty of time to relax at Benèze and watch the sunsets and eat figs from the tree for breakfast. Thank you Anne and Martin for letting us share your lovely home.

We have had a fantastic two weeks Beneze. We are keen road cyclists, so we have seen some beautiful little villages. We also visited the bigger towns - Saintes which is lovely - great indoor and outdoor market. Visited the beautiful Chateau at Crazannes - well worth it.Thank you to Anne and Martin - you have been lovely hosts, we have had a great time.

Idyllic! We rely on reviews to help us pick gites for our holidays, and the great reviews written about Beneze were spot on! Location, comfort and cleanliness, beauty of surroundings, warm welcome and good advice were all as fantastic as so many others had said. We bragged in our postcards to relatives about enjoying meals out on the terrace in the peaceful Charentes countryside, serenaded by birdsong. We could easily have spent more than one week, there were so many interesting places to visit in the area. We loved Saintes (Sunday market, Roman ampitheatre), Pons (impressive Donjon), Blaye (citadel, lovely wines), Talmont-sur--Gironde (picturesque fishing shacks on "stilts" by seaside), Coulon and Arcais in the fascinating Marais (tried eel fricassee there), Cozes (small, authentic Wednesday market - great fish!), La Tremblade (fascinating oyster production, great seafood at restaurant "La Pilotis" with lovely view over oyster beds), beautiful beaches between La Tremblade and La Palmyre, Ars-en-Re and La Flotte (charming coastal towns), Brouage (very cool fort with town inside, surrounded by marshlands), and Jarnac and Cognac (lovely river fronts, and fine cognac of course!). Martin and Anne made for us the best sort of home to return to each day: well equipped (bicycles and picnic set were used almost daily), comfortable, serene, and beautiful. We would highly recommend Beneze to friends and family.

We knew on entering the garden that Benèze was exactly what we had hoped for! Homely, comfortable, well organised and even better than the web site promised. Thank you Anne and Martin, you were very kind and attentive.

Beautiful gite in the perfect location if you want to unwind and relax.

English family of 3 June 2014

We have just returned from a wonderful 2 weeks at Benèze and totally fell in love with the place. The house is spotlessly clean and extremely we'll equipped and comfortable. The garden is lovely and we ate every meal out there in the peace and quiet. Our 3 year old loved running around in the safety of the large garden. Martin and Anne couldn't have been more helpful or friendly offering advice about where to visit and the best beaches etc. The location is perfect, a short cycle ride to a great boulangerie, 5 mins from a larger town with a supermarket and around half an hour from the coast. I can't recommend this property highly enough, I'm sure everyone who walks through Benèze's door will love it just as much as we do.

British couple October 2013

We had a very good week here- really enjoyed the silence and peace. We visited Cognac for the first time - a beautiful town and well worth a visit even if you don't like brandy! Royan was fun too- Pontaillac beach especially attractive & the town was lively. Many thanks - a lovely house and very well equipped.

British Couple September 2013

Excellent gite and hosts. Peaceful and so quiet leading to a relaxing time and deep sleep.

German Couple 3 weeks July 2013

The weeks were just flying away. We felt like being at home in this nice cottage with its warm atmosphere. It was a wonderful and relaxing time.

Belgian couple July 2013

Nous etions vraiment à l'aise à Benèze! Bon endroit, beaucoup à voir. PS. Trés bonne boulangerie à Cravans.

We have had a wonderful two weeks at Beneze. We have visited the regiona few times but this stay has been special because of the peaceful and relaxing location of this beautiful cottage.

British couple April 2013

Lovely gite very comfortable with excellent facilities. We were made to feel most welcome by hosts Anne and Martin.

British couple mid-October 2012

We enjoyed a wonderful, relaxing week in your lovely cottage despite the "mixed" weather. Saintes, Pons and Cognac are well worth a visit. Talmont, Meschers and Mornac are also very interesting - lots of history and tradition. Cross the bridge to Ile d'Oleron especially La Cotiniere. The beaches are fabulous especially St Georges and the whole coastline from St Palais sur mer to Point de la Coubre. PS. nearly forgot the lovely Brouage.

British family of 4, 1 week August 2012

This was our second visit to your lovely gite. It was peaceful and well-equipped. We enjoyed everything. Out of our 3 weeks in France the kids said that they enjoyed Benèze best!

Belgian family of 4, August 2012

We like to thank you for our wonderfu; stay at Benèze! We loved Pons, Saintes, the aquarium at La Rochelle and the beaches. We had very good weather and used often the bikes. The children loved their room upstairs.

British couple, October 2012

The cottage is situated on the edge of a small village. It is in a hamlet of 4 or 5 homes including a farm. The cottage is surrounded by vineyards. It is in a beautiful rural location. The cottage is old but has all the mod cons. It is beautiful both outside and inside. It is in a great spot to visit many of the great beaches and historic sites. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend the cottage to anyone wanting to visit Charente Maritime.

British family of 3 adults, July 2012

A most enjoyable stay in a lovely area. Beneze is a lovely cottage in a quiet and peaceful area yet close enough to lots of interesting and beautiful villages and chateaux. Martin and Anne are very welcoming and are on hand if you should need them. The area around Beneze is flat enough to enjoy cycling around the area or just down to Cravans for your daily bread from the well stocked Boulangerie. Talmont and Meschers-sur Gironde are a must see and are no more than (1/2 hour) 25km away. Royan is also within easy reach as is the Zoo at La Palmyre.

British couple, September 2011

Benèze lived up to its name. Lovely cottage in beautiful surroundings. Lots to see and do in the area. We did much more than we intended but enjoyed every minute.

English family, August 2011

We've had a great holiday this week despite the odd fantastic storm! The cottage is very much suited to our family needs. Its beautiful. Good days out have included: the local heated outdoor pool in Gemozac, the ampitheatre in Saintes, various beaches including plages des Nonnes and St Gearges de Didonne, the town of Royan and Le Parc de L'Estuaire.

English family, August 2011

We had a lovely week, the location of the cottage is really peaceful. We visited Bordeaux which we would recommend. Our favourite beach was St Georges de Didonne, lots of parking. Rebecca says: "I loved my room upstairs, it was superb"

English couple, July 2011

A lovely restful place. Some great days out had too. Saintes being a fantastic historic town and Cognac a must.

Belgian family, July 2011

Ann-Sofie wrote: "My room was really cute! I had a wonderful time here in France. Benèze Rules! Okay"

English couple, June 2011

We were looking for a relaxing peaceful location for a well-earned break from the hustle and bustle of daily life back home. In Benèze we found just that! The location is excellent for exploring the Charente Maritime, in which we suggest: Talmont, Mortagne sur Gironde and Mornac sur Seudre. We highly recommend trying Le Cottage restaurant in Arces, tres bon. We made use of the bicycles to discover the area on two wheels.

French couple with two grandchildren, July 201

"Benèze" Comme l'indique son nom Benèze c'est la tranquillité. Propriétaires charmants et attentionnés qui font découvir dès l'arrivée les produits locaux par un petit cadeau. Location propre et bien entretenue où nous avons passé un excellant séjour. Nous n'hesiterons pas à retourner dans ce gîte. Nous conseillons vivement cette location.

English family of 4, August 2010

Beautiful Benèze!

We loved this gite on first sight! It was so picturesque with soft stone walls, a very private garden and great rural location - our children were keen on the cows in the next field. The gite had everything for a comfortable holiday and was well taken care of. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The area was great for a family holiday. We would recommend the beach at St Georges, the zoo at La Palmyre, the swimming pool at Gemozac and the walled town of Brougage. We would highly recommend Beneze for a holiday.

A lovely peaceful cottage, just what we needed!! Lots to do and see. Loved La Rochelle. Beaches great - Plages des Nonnes (Mescher) the best, very quiet small cove. Great week.

May we just reiterate how much we enjoyed staying at Beneze Cottage - you live in a wonderful area and it was one of the most enjoyable holidays we've had in a while.

"Nous avons passé un très agréable séjour dans votre région mais surtout dans votre maison, très joliment restaurée.

Nous y avons apprécié le calme, qui nous a fait le plus grand bien après une année de travail bien remplie."

English couple October 2009

"This was our first experience of staying in a gite and we were not sure what to expect. We need not have worried as Beneze was a well presented two bedroom cottage (one being upstairs) with a large kitchen / living area. The property is two old farm workers cottages knocked into one. The gite had previously been one of the farm buildings of the local vineyard.

We arrived at the beginning of October just as the vendage (grape harvest) was starting. We were made to feel very welcome by both our hosts, Anne and Martin and the farmer and his family who were very pleased to show us round the farm and the grape harvesting.

The place could not have been more peaceful and tranquil and Anne and Martin made sure that we had everything we needed as well as giving us recommendations of places we might like to visit.

The location was ideal for people wanting to explore the area and to visit the beaches at Meschers, St Georges de Didonne and Royan.

We would definitely recommend Beneze to anyone wanting a quiet rural location whilst being close to many interesting places to visit, including Saintes, Pons, Cognac, St Emilion, Blaye, Royan and La Rochelle.

The restaurants are many and various; our favorites being La Table in Meursac, La Vieille Poste in Champagnolles, Cafe de la Rive in Mortagne and Le Cottage in Arces all being within 20 minutes drive.

We will be back.

Anne and Martin thank you for making our holiday in October 2009 so enjoyable."
